What is your favorite Jessie’s Girls program?

Muscle Building 2 – hands down! I love the tempo training, it’s such a fun mix up from doing traditional sets. I remember the first time I ever did MB2 – I grabbed the weight I normally would (for military press for example) and two reps in, I was like “nope, give me those fives and eights back!”! MB2 is definitely an ego check but the burn I get from it is so painfully awesome!

Where did you come up with the name Healthy Hunnie?

My husband’s cousin actually helped me come up with the name, Healthy Hunnie. I originally started my Instagram with a bunch of “healthy,” macro-friendly recipes and I decided I also wanted to start a blog on top of that, so the first thing we had to do was come up with a creative name. My husband’s cousin is a blogger and is incredibly creative, so I had her help me come up with a fun, catchy name for my Instagram and blog. That’s how Healthy Hunnie was born!

What is a favorite recipe of yours?

Gosh, how are you going to make me choose?! If I HAD to choose one recipe, I would say my favorite recipe is the stuffed sweet potato. It’s one of those meals that you really can’t go wrong with. It’s so easy to make and you can add anything you want to it to meet your macro needs. I personally stuff my sweet potatoes with buffalo chicken, black beans, cheese, green onions and Bolthouse farms ranch dressing.

How do you balance being a newlywed with kicking some serious ass in the gym?

My husband has always been incredibly supportive in my fitness journey. He knows living this lifestyle, tracking all my food, and getting my workouts in everyday is a top priority for me. I’m grateful that we own a home gym because that definitely makes things easier. I can eat, lift, and eat again in a much shorter time, which allows us to spend more time together.

How do you balance work with fitness?

It’s tough! I have an hour commute to and from work every day (so two hours total) and I always lift at night during the workweek. So by the time I get home, it’s usually about 7:00-7:15 PM. I have recently started eating my pre-workout meal on my way home (a bagel and a protein shake) so that I can just come home, drink my NLA For Her Uplift, and workout right away. Most nights I don’t finish until about 9:30.

I’m a night owl so it’s not a huge deal for me to go to bed that late. But, there are definitely days where I’m just so exhausted and don’t feel like working out after such long work days, but those are the days I really try to push through and do the best I can.

What are some of your fitness aspirations?

This year and next year I’m really wanting to focus on building up my deadlift and squat strength. I’ve been working super hard on form for both, especially focusing on hip mobility and flexibility. I have pretty tight hips from sitting a lot between my commute and work, so I do a lot of hip openers and stretching, I know this has been a part of what’s holding me back from being able to lift more. So within the next year or so, I would love to be able to squat and deadlift my own bodyweight with proper form, which is 150 pounds.

What do you do when you don’t feel like working out?

Lots of pre workout helps! I think it’s normal for everyone to go through phases when they just aren’t feeling it. Those are the days that I really have to dig deep and remind myself why I’m doing this. If everyday were easy, I would have no challenges to overcome. For me, those often end up being the best kinds of workouts and I’m always so grateful I sucked it up and pushed through!

“You can’t expect to succeed if you only put in work on the days you feel like it” – that quote always helps me get my shit together!

Describe what it was like when Jessie asked you to become a Jessie’s Girls Ambassador?

Oh goodness. It was UNREAL! I completely fangirled. I was so nervous most of the day when Jessie was making the surprise visit and phone calls for the top three Jessie’s Girls 3K Challenge winners. My husband was my contact person and he swore to me that he never got a phone call from Jessie, not that he would have told me if he did, but he didn’t want me getting my hopes up. Of course I was bummed, but I was also so excited for whoever the top three winners were going to be. So when my phone starting ringing at work and I saw that it was a video call from Jessie Fitness, I obviously knew it was Jessie calling and I lost my shit! I had to really collect myself – despite me sweating uncontrollably during the video.

THEN – when Jessie said she had another surprise and had asked me to be an ambassador, wow – I got so emotional. I didn’t expect that AT ALL!! That is what I always wanted. Winning the money and the swag was awesome, don’t get me wrong, but becoming a Jessie’s Girl Ambassador was something I REALLY wanted and that was all that mattered to me. Not only was I completely surprised that I was part of the top three, I was in complete shock when she asked me to be an ambassador. I still feel like I’m on cloud nine from that day! For the record – I gave my hubby so much shit for lying to me and his response was “I didn’t lie to you, I swore to you that Jessie didn’t call me. Because she didn’t, Jessie’s assistant actually called me” INSERT BIGGEST EYE ROLL!

As an ambassador what are you most looking forward to?

I’m most excited to be able to represent Jessie and everything she stands for as a strong, independent, badass woman. There are so many misconceptions out there nowadays about women working out, about women lifting heavy, about eating a certain way to look a certain way, and all this other bull shit. I know that Jessie’s way IS the way to live a healthy, balanced, carb-loving life, and I’m so excited I get to be a part of spreading that message to women everywhere.
